OTHER PROJECTS:
Engineering and preliminary design began on improvements
at the Livingston Municipal Airport at an estimated
project cost of $1,400,000.
With the closing of Mill Ridge Golf Course in September
2005, the City leased its 9-hole golf course to an
individual who is operating it as Livingston Golf
Course.
New playground equipment, including a climbing wall and
spiral play scape at Matthews Park was installed.
The tennis courts at Matthews Park were resurfaced.
The department spearheaded a beautification improvement
project at Anniversary Park south of Church Street,
which included a concrete retaining wall and picnic
stations.
Crews installed materials at the Little League ballpark
on SH 146 South for the expansion of parking areas and
entrance road improvements.
Decorative pipe fencing was constructed and installed at
Pedigo Park near the entrance to the Trade Days area.
Department staff installed a water mister along the
jogging trail at Matthews Park. This mister was donated
by the Rotary Club..
HIGHLIGHTS
An association of volunteers interested in
constructing a skateboard park presented plans to City Council
in February 2006. The City agreed to donate the land on which
the park will be built on North Washington adjacent to Choates
Creek.
A new entrance sign was erected in Pedigo Park,
with 48” x 22’ limestone columns and a 34-foot-wide steel
archway.
An instructional Nordic Walking Program was added
to Matthews Park.
With the assistance of the Street Department, new
sidewalks were installed at Matthews Park to access the jogging
trail from the parking lot.
A total of 398 children enrolled in summer
swimming lessons.
The department hosted 14 Summer Fun Camps, with
173 children participating.
The City pool was renovated, including
construction of a new deck, replacement of the roof and outdoor
carpet on two existing decks, as well as remodeling of the
concession stand.
The Livingston Aquatics Association was formed
for year-round operation of the City pool. A pool heater and
thermal blankets were purchased for use of the pool in cool
weather.
The Polk County Garden Club recognized the
department with its Civic Pride Award for beautification and
landscaping efforts.
The crew constructed new holiday lighting
displays, including a castle and swans at the pond at Pedigo
Park.
